The ‘My Kerry Biosphere’ primary art calendar competition has just launched as part of the ‘Our Planet, Your Biosphere’ events series, with support from Creative Ireland Kerry, and South Kerry Development Partnership. The theme for this year’s calendar is ‘Birds of the Kerry Biosphere’.

Schools from all over Kerry are invited to take part. An online art workshop will be held on March 15th at 10am with author and illustrator Katie O' Donoghue.

Free training in Responsible Outdoor Recreation for frontline hospitality staff in the Kerry Biosphere area just announced. Dates are available in March with events happening in Killarney, Killorglin, Kenmare and Glencar.

Speakers include Kerry Climbing, Kerry Mountain Rescue, The MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountain Access Forum and Leave No trace.

As part of the ongoing Tri-Biosphere webinar series celebrating the 50th year of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man is to host a webinar on the Isle of Man’s built heritage.

Mann Made: Built Heritage and a Sustainable Future takes place on Wednesday 9th February, 1pm-2.30pm, and is free to attend.

Congratulations are due to designer Akos Csontos whose logo design submitted to our open competition earlier this year has been selected by popular vote as the new logo to represent the Kerry Biosphere Reserve.

Young people who love nature and the outdoors were invited to take part in a summer writing challenge this year. After a successful launch year in the Isle of Man in 2020, The Young Nature Blogger 2021 went international as Kerry Biosphere and Dublin Bay Biosphere joined the competition. The overall international winner was announced earlier this week.

Young Nature Blogger began in 2020 as an initiative by UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man. This year, Dublin Bay and Kerry Biospheres have joined in; running their own local challenges, with entrants aged 21 and under invited to submit up to 500 words on their own favourite place, animal or experience in nature. The Kerry Biosphere competition closed on September 24th after receiving 70 entries from all over Ireland.
